Lakes are places for tranquility and peace. Visiting a lake gives you a chance to interact with nature and it takes away all the negative effects of urban life on your mental & physical health just because of its freshness. 1. Lac d’Annecy

Lake Annecy derives its name from the city of Annecy, situated in Haute-Alpes, France. The Lake of Annecy is present at high altitudes in mountainous zones. It is surrounded by a line of trees that form a pristine forest with an extended sheet of ice cover. This is the ideal place for hiking & biking in the summer and snowboarding and skiing in winter.

When you visit lake Annecy don’t forget to visit the city of Annecy. The city with a rich old town is famous for the canal Du Thiou that passes through it. That’s why it is termed the Venice of France.

2. Lac du Bourget

It is the deepest lake in France. It is a perfect spot for fishing because of the presence of more than thirty species of fish including whitefish and char. The lake has 14 ports and over 2600 sailing berths. The beauty of the lake is so mesmerizing that it inspired the poet “Lamartine” to write the poem of “Le Lac” in his book Meditations Poetiques.

3. Lac d’Aigubellette

Lac d’Aigubellete is 70m deep and has its natural boundaries. It is encircled by mountains covered with lush trees. They give them the green look. The theme does not break with the water of the lake that is like an emerald too.

If you are a beach lover, you will never be disappointed after visiting this one of the best lakes in France. It has a beach at Le Port. Plage du Sougey is another grassy beach that is the perfect place for children to play. You can get all kinds of snack bars, restaurants, and parking to enjoy there.

4. Lac de Gerardmer

It is named after the town where it is situated, Gerardmer, France. The deep blue water reflects that it is a glacier lake coming from the Vosges mountain range. It is elliptical in shape with a length of 5,500 m. You can cover the whole lake within three and a half hours. It’s a nice place to visit with your family and a great opportunity to enjoy fishing, boating, and trekking.

5. Lac de Geneve

It is the largest lake in Central Europe with the interesting shape of a crescent.  Lack de Geneve is located at the boundaries of two countries France and Switzerland. When you move along the lake, you get historic homes that refresh the memories of the past. It has stunning beaches enriched with natural beauty and greasy sand. Its resorts are ready to give you the luxurious experience of living there.

6. Lac de Gaube

The Pyrenees is a mountain range that acts as a high wall between France and Spain. It contains an elegant lake of Lac De Gaube. Its crystal clear water reflects the high mountains of the Pyrenees. If you want to spend some time alone somewhere between the mountains on the bank of the water lake. Lac de Gaube is the right place for you.

7. Lac de Madine

Lac De Madine is located with the hills of Cotes De Meuse that roll with the lake. It is a perfect place to watch birds and hike at the same time. It is suitable for the summer and best for water sports. There is also a memorial closer to Lac De Madine  at the Montsec hill where US Army led the offensive in the First World War in 1918.

8. Lac de Sainte-Croix

Lac De Sainte is a man-made lake situated in the southeast of France. The origin of the lake water is the Verdon river.  The most interesting place to see here is the tear-eye of the lake. Looking at the torques water makes you relax instantly. Meanwhile, it is the best place for kayaking.
